Tenuta Calimaia
This project marks the return of the Frescobaldis to Montepulciano in the name of that exploratory nature which also belonged to Lionardo Di Niccolò Frescobaldi: explorer, writer and merchant, he became mayor of Montepulciano in 1390.

Nestled amidst the rolling hills between the Val di Chiana and Val d'Orcia, Tenuta Calimaia extends over some 70 hectares in one of the areas historically dedicated to the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Cervognano. It is the lowest area, where clayey soils and higher temperatures make the wines rich in tannins and particularly suitable for ageing.

The vineyards, arranged in a circle around the hill of Monteliscione, are located about 300 metres above sea level, in an area where the soils are of Pliocene origin, poor in organic matter and therefore particularly suited to the cultivation of Sangiovese (in this area traditionally called Prugnolo Gentile).
The high content of clay and the high temperatures due to the low altitude produce a structured and powerful Noble wine, rich in tannins and very suitable for ageing.
